Web Site Hosting

If you would like to set up your own web site and have your own domain names and your own email addresses, even your own bulletin board/forum/blog or on-line web shop, then you may be interested in the Web Hosting and Domain Name services provided by Stablepoint. (In all good conscience I can no longer recommend my previous hosting company TSOHOST, which migrated to 123Reg, I believe both part of the GoDaddy group, who I feel finally let me down badly despite having been a loyal customer for something like 16 years).

Although the websites can be as simple as you like, you don't need to know how to code in HTML, there are free WYSIWYG (just like a word processor)  web site Content Management Systems (CMS) iincluded to easily build your web site, this hosting service also provides comprehensive facilities for running databases, email, CGI, PHP and Perl scripts and programs on your website and a large number of free ready to go systems and modules (e.g. WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, OpenCart, Magento, Prestashop, phpBB) are available from the control panel provided e.g. set up your own bulletin board or forum systems and even shopping carts if you want to set up your own e-commerce website allowing for future growth and development.

As a consequence of being let down, at short notice, by TSOHOST, and having already done quite a bit of research on alternative hosting services due to my growing dissatisfaction with them, I immediately purchased a new hosting service from "Stablepoint" who migrated my web sites to their hosting service for me free of charge.  I particularly chose Stablepoint as one of the original founders of Vidahost, who personally gave me terrific service back in the day, is one of the founders of Stablepoint and they seem to get very good reviews from their customers.

I have to say my initial experience with Stablepoint has been superb.  They migrated my web sites/domains/email addresses for me,for free, within hours of opening my account with them and were very responsive in solving some initial DNS type problems following the release of my domains from TSOHOST.  Shortly after that, literally within 5 minutes of me asking if if was possible to sort out moving my web sites to the latest version of PHP (as on TSOHOST they were on an old unsupported version of PHP which TSOHOST told me they couldn't upgrade on their legacy servers), they had sorted out an issue and, bingo, my web sites were running the latest version of PHP which now means I can also at last upgrade my websites to the latest version of the CMS as well.

So watch this space I will keep this page updated with my experiences of Stablepoint.  So far though I am delighted, very responsive support with no long support queues or waiting times and all of the staff I have dealt with so far seem to know what they are talking about rather than just working from a script. My web site response times seem pretty much instantaneous as well and their hosting services are competitively priced.

So if you are looking for a website hosting service (inc. your own email addresses), or want to buy/renew your own internet Domain Names, then you may wish to click on the banner below and check out Stablepoint.

Update July 2025:  While I am still very happy with the service I have received from Stablepoint and I was looking forward to a long relationship with them I was very disappointed to find on renewal of my Hosting Service and domain  names this year that there has been a monumental increase (well over double) in my renewal costs.

As I am running a couple of non-profit websites on a shoestring budget this is unfortunately this means that this is no longer sustainable for me so I am currently looking to migrate to a more economical hosting company before my renewal becomes payable.  I understand that costs go up and Stablepoint need to make a profit, and if you are running a profit making website then the increases will be chicken feed especially if you value uptime and support above or else, but unfortunately for me this is an additional cost which, on a limited income, I cannot afford.

I will keep this page updated with any alternative hosting providers I find.  Unfortunately if I cannot find a cheaper service it may mean the end of the road for this website.  I will endeavour to keep my other website brigandboys.org.uk running as long as I can afford it as a memorial to my father, who wrote the contents but sadly died last year, and the other members of 84 Squadron, RAF,  who lost their lives in the Malayan Emergency and for whom precious little memorial exists to the sacrifices they made and the young lives which were lost.

Update: I have managed to find a more economical hosting solution with webhosting.uk.com who have charged mean less than half the cost of my renewal with Stablepoint (and in fact slightly less than my original contract with Stablepoint pre the massive price hike).  So for the time being the nbroadsman.me.uk and brigandboys.org.uk websites live on!

Initial impressions of webhosting.uk.com have been very favourable and they have migrated my websites, domains and emails across to their systems very quickly and efficiently and a couple of minor teething problems I had were responded to very quickly and in a friendly manner by people who obviously knew their stuff technically.  It is early days yet and I will keep this page updated with my experiences with webhosting.uk.com but I am hoping I have found a long term hosting partner again!
